Structure and properties of lead-free bismuth phosphorous brass

Structure and properties of lead-free bismuth phosphorous brass
By adding phosphorus and bismuth to replace the lead in the lead brass, a new environmentally friendly free-cutting brass is prepared. Observing its structure, studying its mechanical properties and cutting performance, the results show that bismuth is distributed in brittle and low-hardness compounds. The grain boundary, phosphorus and copper form a brittle eutectic structure, which is beneficial to improve the cutting performance of the alloy. The tensile strength, elongation, and reduction of area of the developed alloy are 248.5 MPa, 8.5%, and 8.67%, respectively. It is equivalent to HPb59-1, and the shape is C-shaped shavings.
